Ii have a pressure washer and took it a part and spilt the oil, can you use gear oil to replace itt and ?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Hi, It will probably be compressor oil, it's more dense than gear oil and will work at higher temperatures, you risk it seizing if you put gear oil in. Most large motor factors will sell compressor oil Hope that helps Danny
I have a Coleman pressure washer that Coleman says is obsolete. I need a part for it. Where can I go?
Model # pw0701210.01
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Depends where you live and what part you need. Its likely that some parts of that washer were used in other Coleman products. A shop specializing in small machine servicing (lawn mowers, compressors, golf carts etc) might be able to offer some suggestions. I know of two such shops within 10 minutes of my office (near chicago) but if you live in a smaller city they might be harder to come by.
I have a Cambell hausefield pressure washer and every time i crank it up water gets in the crankcase housing.?
I have already put all new parts in the pump
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
It sounds like a crank seal I would also guess that you also have an oil leak too. I think it is time for a complete tear down and rebuild
Coleman pressure washer- Anybody have non-working one? I need a pump part?
Coleman no longer makes pressure washers. I broke a very small part off my pump. Before you send your broken washer to the dump, I would be happy to buy just this piece I need or your entire non-working pressure washer if you are close to SF Bay area. Mine is the 4hp model but I believe all the pumps were the same. I erred in my original post. The part I need is for the water distribution manifold (adjusting screw) and not the pump. The pump works fine and there is no mfg name on it so it must be proprietary.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
The pump was NOT made by Coleman. There should be a manufacturers name on the pump. Contact Coleman and see if they can give you the name of the manufacturer of the water distributation manifold.

what happens if i put to much oil in my power washer.?
I may have put to much oil in my power washer. Is it ruined now? I can't get it to start again, but haven't tried to hard, wanted to see if I should be doing something first to clean up any excess oil. Yes, it is very probable that is has a drain plug… There still lies a question tho….. Is there something I should do to clean up excess oil? Would draining the oil, fix the problem? Or have I already ruined the machine? NOTE: The air filter did have oil in it.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Take oil out of drain hole. Wipe off the oil stick. Put plug back in and put oil in. Pull rope 3-4 times, might have to pump. If it has a rubber pump push 4 times. Not start push 3 more times. Put in new spark plug. Will smoke for awhile.
Lots of gas in the oil resevior of Honda power washer???
I have a power washer with an 11hp honda OHV motor that recently broke down. It would run for a few seconds and blow a ton of smoke then stall. It wouldnt start again for about an hour and the same thing would happen. I started working on it and found that oil was coming out of the crankase breather hose back into the airbox…lots of oil. When I drained the oil I realized that there was a ton of gas in the oil..seemed like it was 40% gas. Any ideas how gas could be getting into the oil resevoir? Thanks!
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Youre lucky you didnt blow the motor up. When gas overflows the carb and finds it way into the oil – it thins it out enough to where the oil wont lubricate anymore and ruin the berings. The gas is overflowing the float bowl – number of things causing this? Dirty carb, bad float. Id remove and clean the carb thouroughly – all the lil pinholes – everything. Check to see if the float has been saturated with gas ( due to a pinhole- it happens) . The fuel needle seat could have dirt in it. The reason why it pushed it all out thru the breather is it didnt have anywhere else to go , when it overflowed it overfilled the oil and spit it out thru the breather.

What is the best brand of power washer to buy?
I bought a husky and it burned out after 2 years and about 6 hours of use. I mainly need one for cleaning a deck and my house siding.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
I use a Karcher with a Honda engine. It works a lot of hours every week, and keeps on going strong. I also suggest using a final pre-filter for the water in line – to save the washer pump from damage.

What good is a surface cleaner for a pressure washer?
So I am new to pressure washing and I had some questions! I have seen a thing called a surface cleaner and it looks like it does the same work a pressure washer does but just easier and faster! Will you explain the difference between normal pressure washing and a surface cleaner?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
When you say "surface cleaner", I assume you're referring to a device that hooks up to a garden hose, not a chemical treatment. A surface cleaner can only deliver water at your water line's pressure. This should be between 40 and 80 psi (pounds per square inch). A pressure washer has an internal, electrically operated motor and pump which delivers water at around 10 atmospheres (1500 psi). A pressure washer will clean grime off that a "surface cleaner" won't. If all you have to clean is superficial dirt and debris, a surface cleaner should work just fine. If however, you have embedded dirt debris, or moss, a pressure washer is what you need. NOTE: Be careful what you use a pressure washer on. It can damage some surfaces and remove paint.
Would a pressure washer's pull cord not come out completely if it was low on oil?
I'm trying to fix my cousin's pressure washer and the only thing I noticed that could be wrong is the oil was low. It stopped working when she was pressure washing her deck. I just want to make sure before I go add new oil and have it turn out there's a non related engine problem or something. I checked the air filter and it's clean, the spark plug was connected properly, the gas is all new, and it didn't sit out in the cold so nothing froze inside.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
How low was the oil when you got it? The pull cord recoil mech could be messed up. Or the cylinder could seized. Sounds to me since it stopped working while in use its seized.
Craftsman pressure washer will not start?
I have a practically new craftsman pressure washer (briggs and Stratton motor) that will not start. The gas is fresh and I get a shock when I touch the spark plug wire and ground it.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Does it have a valve to shut the gas off? If so, make sure it is open so the gas will flow through from the tank to the carb. You may need to take it to your local Sears store and see what is going on with it. If you let it set for a long time with gas still in the tank you may have to take the carb off and tear it down and give it a good cleaning. Gas today isn't like the old gas used to be. If it sets for very long it will gum up a carb quickly. Need to either drain all the gas out or add an additive to it if you intend to let it set for long periods of time without use. Putting new fuel in with old fuel will not work if it is gummed up inside the carb.
How do I Descale a MiTM 2003 steam pressure washer?
How do I Descale a MiTM 2003 steam pressure washer I have 2 of these steam pressure washers , both well used and the local MiTM Dealer does not do the descaling . I think there is a chemical to use but I don't know what it is or where to get it . Considering the $5906.00 price tag on the units I dont want to mess them up.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
You need to pump the heating coil full of a mild acid solution and let it work over night. I would recommend either vinegar or citric acid – Muratic acid will be faster ( about 1 hour soak time ) but only use it if you are certain the coil is made of stainless steel tubing, if the coils are not stainless steel it can corrode them – the milder acids will not do so.

Why wouldn't a pressure washer be putting out any pressure?
I've had this pressure washer for 2 years, I just sold it and the guy says 'the pump cut out and won't come back on'. Its a 13hp Honda engine, on a 3600 psi 4gpm pump. What would cause a loss of pressure? If the pump seized, would the engine still run? Its hooked up to a house spiket, I think it flows 6-8 gpm.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
You didnt give much information as to what brand pump is mounted to the honda engine. But to venture an educated guess I would say Cam is right. The unloader valve is stuck in the unload mode. It could also be the "Easy-Start Spring" has broken and is locked in the start mode. (low pressure mode for easy starting of large horse power engines)

Craftsman power washer wont start?
we have a craftsman power washer that got blown over in a storm. it now has oil in the air cleaner and won't start. Will replacing the air cleaner fix my problem?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
=== all air cleaners have oil inside === remove the spark plug and turn the engine over by pulling on the start rope ….. Stay out of the way of the plug hole or cover it with a rag incase it spews gas or oil out and not on you …. Wash the plug with WD-40 and replace — get fresh gas & oil mixture — remove excess oil from air filter — prime the gas up to the carburetor — pull the rope to start — hope that this works and you are running and it will start for you ………………..
How does a power washer work?
ok so im doing my science project on a power washer (don't ask
) and i need to know some stuff abou it like how does it work ,how does it improve ur lives and finally what are the environmental issues of it PLEASE HELP ITS DUE ON MONDAY!! best answer gets 10 points
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
It pushes a lot of water through a tiny hole, which has a lot of pressure, so the water comes out with a lot of force (i.e. Power). So you can blast dirt off. It cleans without the use of chemicals, and doesn't take a lot f energy or strength to run.

Which uses more water, an electric pressure washer or a garden hose with a fire hose attachment?
-Does the soap dispenser on an (electric) pressure washer create soap suds like a foam lance? -Which is easier on the car? -Which should I get? -Which is better for washing a car? -Please add which is more effective at washing a car? Any extra information would be very appreciated!!!! THANKS!!!! -lets say about, and1800 psi electric pressure washer. – how does a garden hose use more water than a pressure washer or vice-versa?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
A hose with a hand controlled sprayer and a bucket of water and car wash soap , a long with a brush and a few towels set aside and some music , the best . A high pressure wash , are you serious , this will only knock off film and not to much dirt. Turn it up or change the valves and your gonna start peeling off paint.
the company that makes Dura Built pressure washer?
The hose split on my pressure washer and I need to replace it.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
That is a imported product, but you can take that hose to a good auto parts store or industrial supply store and they can match up your hose and make you a new one. (one that will be of higher quality)
pressure washer why not use a stop end on the hose.?
I have just got a new pressure washer but the instructions say that you should not use a stop end on the water feed, why does this cause a problem as the connection opens the stop end so it is free flowing
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
You need the volume of water within the hose and sometimes the machine can draw if off where the stop end can cause the machine to lose water supply enough for it to "bunny hop", although infrequent. Try kinking and straightening the hose quickly a few times and you get the same result. That's why you should have a certain length of hose reeled out as well, so theres enough water volume for the pressure water to draw on.
I pressure washed the inside of my car?
The other day me and my wife went to one of those do it yourself car washes. I was going round with the pressure washer hose and going as quick as I could. My wife was inside and kept pointing at her watch as she had a hair appointment, this annoyed me so I opened her door and blasted her in the face. Now my car is all wet inside and my wife is so lazy, she is refusing to use the hairdryer to dry the seat! What can I do!

I'd like suggestions for cleaning my brick patio after I've removed the mud wasp nests?
The mud nests leave a muddy residue once removed (by putty knife or power washer), and when applied, the garden hose or power washer just don't erase the residue. It looks messy and unkempt. I've thought about a scrub brush and bleach/water mixture, but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
A little bleach and water, a lot of elbow grease and it will be gone. Been there and done that. Let the solution set for 10 minutes. I did not have the patience. If I had , things would have been much better. Good Luck.
How to run electric power washer off a 5 gal bucket of water?
I have a electric powerwasher. Is it possible to feed it water from a tank such as a 5 gal bucket? I won't need a lot of water. Just a blast or two. How can i fit something on the bottom of the bucket so it accepts a garden hose? Are there any adapters out there? If not, would drilling a hole on the bottom and sticking a hose up in and sealing the edge with waterproof caulking or something work? If the bucket is held higher than the pressure washer, will gravity be enough to feed it? If i buy an adapter that will screw into the bucket, what kind of adapter for a garden hose? And how will it not leak without some sort of caulking?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Might work. Best chance for success is using adapters, not caulking. Adapters are available at home improvement stores so you can connect ordinary garden hose. Drill a hole in bucket. You may then be able to just screw in the hose adapter with maybe only a washer. Maybe can get a faucet with on/off handle. Convenient when disconnecting. Hang it as high as possible because it will increase water pressure. Hang it high up on a tree if possible, using rope. Do only very short blasts.
How to clean exterior of home before painting?
I need to clean the exterior surfaces of my home before I repaint them. Should I just spray them with the hose, or use a power washer? There is some very light mold in some spots.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
On the moldy areas, you should use some bleach and water applied with a scrub brush and scrub the mold off. Rinse well. If you don't have mold issues elsewhere, a good washing down with a hose with some decent water pressure will work. But if you have heavy soil/dirt, more mold, peeling paint, a pressure washer properly used will save you a lot of work. Let the house dry for a couple of days before you start scraping, caulking, primering and painting.

Power washer not working properly.?
I recently bought a power washer. I tried it out the day i bought it and it was working fine. I pulled it yesturday after being stored for 2 days and it is not working properly. It starts good and seem to be runing normal. it has 2 setting low presure and high presure. When I run it in low presure water comes out good but when i put it in high presure there is not much water coming out. I get more presure from the hose itself then when im running the power washer on high presure. Any ideas what could be wrong?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Sometimes it takes a few minutes to warm up….it'll sputter and spit off and on before it really starts shooting. Make sure there is a fresh fuse in the machine…if not take it out and replace it at an auto parts store. Make sure the hose is not bent anywhere or folded anywhere, cutting off the pressure. Make sure it has gas…. If that doens't work, then not sure man

can a power washer work with no running water my friend says it can work with standing water and a hose?
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
It depends on what type power washer you buy. In fact , you are both right. The smaller power washers , under 2000w , tend to run with a running water plugged into the side of it . However , the larger , more industrial power washers , usually the ones you rent , basically suck the water out of a large container ( or a barrel is what i use ) beside it. Note though : If you a sucking the water out of a barrel , make sure to have a hose feed into the barrell, because those large washers use a lot of water.
Where Can I Find A "10 Foot Power Washer Pipe"?
I need to find a 10 foot power washer steel line. IT IS NOT A HOSE! If anyone knows any place online or at a store please let me know. It can be from ebay or where-ever. Thanks.
portablepowerwasher.net answers:
Go to home depot or any hardware store that sells pipe. All you need is threaded galvanized pipe of the same size as the wand you have. You can get any length you want. And they will thread it for you. Take your old wand with you. I am a paint contractor and this what i do when i replace mine. Screws right on gun the quick release tip holder screws on the other end. Use teflon tape on threads(no leaks) Very cost effective. Good Luck Terry
